Around the New Technology Campus

David Meers David Meers of BBC Research & Development Department provides a look at the highlights of this year's New Technology Campus

This year's New Technology Campus (NTC) presents a selection of new faces and old friends, but regardless of whether or not the contributors are new, their projects and demonstrations are all new and promise an exciting presence at IBC2004.
RPPTV/RPPNET is demonstrating a fully operational remote programme production system in the new technology village at IBC. This provides an end-to-end solution from archiving and describing audio/visual material, to the use of this digital content by remote users in the production of broadcast quality television programmes. The technology being demonstrated includes hardware to ingest and allows rapid description of AV material using a capture/metadata terminal, through to the indexing and archiving of this content, culminating with patented programme production server-side technology.
RPPTV is demonstrating both online and offline systems including the customised data mining server-side search engine, simple online editing, online sequencing and offline manipulation of subsequent downloaded AV material over the internet. Also included are metadata editing and AV management software which allows the remote management of all stored and archived material.
